Developed between 1838 and 1844 by Samuel Morse and Alfred Vail for the electric telegraph, Morse code became humanity’s first universal digital communication standard. On May 24, 1844, Morse transmitted the historic inaugural telegraph message from Washington D.C. to Baltimore: “What hath God wrought”.
